Rules - Black Jack
In
the game of black-jack there are six decks each
containing 52 cards. Before the game begins
the cards are shuffled by the dealer and placed
in the shoe.
The player bets against the bank.
The aim is to achieve 21 points
or get as close as possible to
21. It is left to the player’s own disretion to do this
with more than two cards. If however, the total value of the cards exceeds 21
points the hand is “bust” and the bank will collect the bet.
The maximum and minimum bets are shown on the table. All bets must be divisible
by ten. Only euros will be accepted at the table in the form of cash or jetons
(chips).
The seven “boxes” as they are known are for the bets.
The “boxholder” is the person sitting in front of the box.
In the case where there are seats free the dealer can appoint the person standing
in front of the box as the boxholder.
Several players can play a box simultaneously. The decisions however, are made
by the boxholder only. Participating players must refrain from giving any advice
to the boxholder.
The boxholder is decided according to the following rules:
a) The boxholder
b) The player with the highest bet.
c) In the case of equal bets the sitting player.
d) If the status is still equal between the players; then the distance from the
shoe will be the deciding factor.
The same order of precedence applies if, at the moment of decision, no boxholder
can be identified for the box in play,
or the official boxholder is temporarily absent.
The sum of bets per box may not exceed the box maximum, if the maximum is exceeded
the dealer must return the amount over the maximum to the player before a card
is drawn.
Doubling:
If a player’s first two cards result in a total of nine, ten or eleven,
or an ace with a number card, he may double his bet, even when he has already
bet the maximum. After doubling the player will receive only one additional card.
Any players occupying the box are not required to double their bets, these continue
as set or they can be doubled by another player.
Splitting:
If a player’s first two cards are of the same value he can split.
If the following cards are also of the same value they can also be splitted and
played as individual hands, i.e. Have as many cards as desired added to each
hand. The only exception being, if the player splits two aces then only one additional
card will be dealt. The bet on the split hand, i.e. The second card must be the
same as the original bet, even if the player has bet the maximum amount. Any
player sharing the same box who does not want to split and place a second bet
would play the initial bet on the first hand and his second hand can be played
by another player. After a split an ace with a ten-value card does not result
in black-jack.
Insurance:
If the banks first card is an ace, each player has the option to insure his hand
against the banks possible black-jack by putting up to half his original bet
on the insurance field. In the case of a black-jack by the bank the insurance
will be paid at 2:1. If the bank does not have a black-jack then the dealer collects
the insurance bet. If a player, after having insured his bet wants to double
or split, he can also double his insurance stake.
Even money:
If the banks’ first card is an ace and a box has black-jack, the boxholder
has the option of being paid “even money” before the banks’
second card is dealt.
The management reserves the right of final decision in all matters relating to
the game. As soon as all the players have placed their bets, the dealer will
deal the cards in a clockwise direction. Every played box will receive a card
with the dealer receiving the last card face up.
Then every box will automatically receive a second card also face up. From
here on every player may order a card from the dealer by announcing “card”
or refuse by announcing “rest”.
If the boxholder wants more cards he does this by saying card or rest or by the
following hand signals: knocking on the table with the hand, or scratching the
table with a finger means card, a sliding movement with the flat hand means rest.
Once the dealer has confirmed the decision it cannot be changed.
As soon as all boxholders have completed their hands, the dealer will draw
the respective cards for the bank. The bank must draw up to 16 points inclusive
and stand on a count of 17 or more. If for example a player has more points
than the bank without having exceeded 21, he wins and is paid even money.
If the bank’s
hand is bust (more than 21), the players’ stakes will win as well. Equal
points between player and bank means that neither party wins or loses, “stand-off”.
Picture cards count as 10, aces count as 1 or 11 according to the boxholders
choice, all other cards have their value printed on them. If the boxholder can
not determine the value of an ace, he can decide by saying card or rest.
Depending on the explanation the dealer will announce the player’s most
suitable total.
The highest possible win combination is black-jack: an ace and a ten-value card.
This win combination is only valid with the first two cards of a box: a player
holding such a hand wins 1,5 times his bet. If the banks’
first card is not an ace or ten-value card the black-jack will be paid
immediately, unless the boxholder wants the black-jack combination to be
valued as eleven points and to double. The participating players may choose
to get their black-jack winnings immediately or double their bets as well.
What else you should know
If the dealer misunderstands a players intentions the player may keep a card
drawn in error. If the boxholder refuses to accept the card and it’s value
was already known the card will be taken out of the game,”burned”.
The next boxholder may not claim the error card. If however the card is dealt
face down then it remains in the game. If the dealer deals cards to an empty
box by mistake, the game will be corrected by redressing all cards according
to the game rules.
With only one player at the table, two boxes are the maximum that may be played.
A new player can only participate in the game after the running has been finished.
It is a european custom that after the player has been paid his winnings,
a suitable amount is paid into the “tronc”. According to legislation
the casino staff are paid exclusively from the tronc. Money put into this
tronc, should not be considered as an additional tip for the croupiers.
We want your visit to our casino to be “out of the ordinary”.
Should you have any queries, questions or comments, our staff will be very
pleased to assist you in any way possible.
